BEFORE AMI Aviation Services LLC Blank plate with a Garmin GPS 155, MD41-424 Nav/GPS switch unit and an avionics master switch underneath. The center stack has a blank plate and a Collins VIR351 and Collins VHF251 to be removed. amiaviation.com Location: Sanford, Florida Employees involved in the project: Chris Pontoni (repair station manager) Robert Taylor (installation technician) Brandy Liberatore (installation technician) Type of Aircraft: 1979 Beechcraft C24R Sierra What was the objective of this project? To install Avidyne IFD440 and AirGizmo panel dock to hold a portable Garmin GPS When did the project begin? Aug. 31, 2015 When was it completed? Sept. 16, 2015 What makes this project unique? In order to create a more streamlined panel look, we created an adapter plate to mount the AirGizmo dock that extended down to cover vacated holes from the MD41424 Nav/GPS switch unit and the former avionics master switch, instead of individually blanking those holes. Did you encounter any problems while working on the project? Placement of equipment in the panel could not be done per the original plan due to STC field of view contraints regarding annunciation. Otherwise, this project went smooth with no rework or troubleshooting at the tail end. How did you resolve these problems? Re-planned placement of equipment and fabricated the previously mentioned adapter plate to hold the AirGizmo dock, which also acted as a blanking plate for vacated panel holes. Did you learn anything from this project? As with all projects, expect the unexpected and be prepared to go with Plan B. What was the customer's response? The customer was excited to complete his much anticipated Avidyne installation. He also was happy to have his portable GPS mounted into his panel and powered with aircraft power. q AFTER Adapter plate holding AirGizmo panel dock with portable Garmin GPS plugged in (center of panel).
