Its test chamber measures 10.5-by-11.5-by-15 inches.
With a maximum altitude of 100,000 feet, the 20.5-by-19by-20.5-inch Tenny Strat TS5T Altitude and Temperature
Chamber will accommodate a bit larger box, Moore said,
but the challenge is designing an airtight adapter that
connects the cables from the functional test equipment to
the box undergoing altitude and decompression testing.
Shock and vibration testing is another challenge, he said,
because the test box must be mounted on the Dynamic
Solutions Mechanical Shaker the same way it would be
mounted in an aircraft.
The All American 1915X Overpressure Vessel (-15,000
feet, 26 psi maximum at 1,100 feet) and the Espec BTL-433
Humidity & Temperature Chamber (10 to 95 percent relative
humidity from minus 20 degrees Celsius to 180 degrees) will
accommodate boxes similar in size to those that fit in the
altitude chamber. Completing Jupiter's test suite are units that

evaluate magnetic effect, DC power input, voltage spikes,
induced signal susceptibility and electrostatic discharge.
"We're always looking for new tests," Moore said. "We
go to external test houses for RF emissions and susceptibility
and lightning-induced transient testing because the equipment
involved is expensive. Quite often, during prototype testing,
we want to make sure all of the little radio frequency bits
inside our audio equipment (we have switching power
supplies in there) are not leaking out of cables, so we are
building test equipment for emission testing. But it is
rudimentary, so we can test the prototypes here and will
know that the box will pass when we go to an outside test
house for certification testing. Eventually, we want to be able
to do all of the test here."
Like Jupiter's founders, Moore started his avionics career
at Northern Airborne Technology. He started as an electronics
technologist designing equipment. NAT had a DO-160 testing
lab, and he used it to evaluate his work. "I really enjoyed that
part of the design process, and I had an aptitude for recording
my observations and creating useable test reports," he said.
