In aviation, True Blue Power started
overcoming barriers to its newtechnology lithium-ion main-ship
batteries more than five years ago - and
in panels years before that.

Havilland DCH-8 airliners - the Dash 8 still in production
today as an evolved Bombardier Q400.
True Blue Power teamed with the customer, Canadian
carrier Avmax, to earn STC approval from Transport
Canada, the approval on which the companies based their
application for an FAA STC.
"We already have our first STC for the TB44 and
expect that approval soon from the FAA," Winter said
that day. Three weeks later, on Oct. 7, True Blue Power
announced the TB44's Canadian approval with Avmax.
Approved but not yet announced, True Blue
Power's second significant success, the Part
23 breakout - the ubiquitous Bonanza.
And with an STC application
pending for Cessna's workhorse
208 Caravan series, the Wichita
company has a foundation built
for further approvals for its
breakthrough batteries.
As it turned out, other airframes
were being tested for more
STCs of True Blue Power's
groundbreaking batteries in Part
27 helicopters, along with the
fixed-wing STCs.
The battery is one of five
models from the company, and one
of two EASA and FAA TSO'd.
The TB35, TB40 and TB46 models
have yet to earn their flying papers. But

the TB44 has TSO and STC paperwork in addition to the
TB17.
Together, these approvals put True Blue Power on the
path to securing the broad-based approvals needed for
the company's new battery technology to surge ahead
against a tide of institutional inertia, abiding caution
and something of an aversion to lithium-ion battery
technology - at least in aircraft.
