likely to continue beyond the deadline. From 9,100 to
more than 100,000 in slightly more than four years? The
math is fairly simple.
If the enthusiasm and smiles at the show were any
indication - and we think they are - we're not the only
ones who can do that math. It's a good time to be in the
avionics industry.
The AEA's 2014 year-end Avionics Market Report itself is in its third year, and seems to be gaining traction.
"This is only the third year of the report's existence, but
it is beginning to establish a solid baseline to better evaluate and compare data in the years ahead," Derks noted
on unveiling the 2014 data at the state of the industry
session on April 9. "The report indicates modest yearover-year growth in sales for the second straight year,"
Derks commented, noting that "more than 37 percent of
avionics sales took place outside the United States and
Canada," which she labeled as yet another "indicator
that the business and general aviation industry truly is an
international market."

THE AWARDS
One way to recognize a mature, responsible industry
is in the ways it recognizes trend-setters, innovators
and even rank-and-file members for their achievements,
especially when competition is involved. Think of Sony
praising Panasonic, Ford congratulating General Motors
or Bombardier gushing over a Gulfstream. Continuing
its long-standing tradition, the AEA presented three prestigious industry awards to people and companies representing the very best the avionics industry has to offer.
The 2015 AEA Member of the Year award winner was
Joe Braddock of Southeast Aerospace in Melbourne,
Florida. Given his early involvement in the industry - an
Air Force "brat," his father specialized in avionics -
Braddock has been around avionics literally his entire
life. Later, it became a family affair, with Joe and his
father founding Southeast Aerospace, along with Joe's
mother and his older brother. A long-standing and active
AEA member, Southeast Aerospace has grown to have
more than 100 employees today.
As his father's roots took hold and the company grew,
