transponder. Both versions include a diplexer and may be
installed using a single transponder antenna. Both versions also
support various GPS navigators and air-data computers available from other manufacturers.

Satcom Direct
As its name implies, Satcom Direct provides global satellite communications to business and military aviation, general
aviation, land-mobile and maritime customers. For its aviation
customers, Satcom Direct also offers nose-to-tail value-added
services, including cockpit datalink, accelerated high-speed
data, real-time traffic monitoring, VoIP services and ATS position reporting.
The company introduced globalVT, which it said is the first
service to use an Apple iOS/Android application to enable a
passenger's own smartphone/handset and mobile number to
receive voice calls or text messages in their aircraft anywhere
in the world through the SwiftBroadband, Yonder or 3G networks. When placing a call through the system, the handset's

Caller ID appears on the recipient's device, something not all
similar services allow, for seamless communications. And the
service works in both directions: airborne passengers receiving a call also are presented with Caller ID. The globalVT
application works like any other smartphone calling or texting
application, including integration of personalized ring tones and
on-device contact lists.
Satcom Direct said it has more than 375 cellular roaming agreements throughout the world, and its coverage map
includes broad swaths of North and South America, Europe,
Asia and Australia. According to the company, anyone in the
world can make a phone call to an aircraft anywhere else in
the world using its service. The globalVT application also
adds international calling prefixes required when dialing.
