Simphonē FANS1/A+ data link unit

recent transmission received, saving a pilot the embarrassment of
asking ATC to repeat a message, and can be a real advantage to
students and even experienced pilots. Also, an emergency button
automatically sets the 121.5 MHz and appropriate volume levels,
helping the pilot make a successful transmission in what may be
a stressful situation. Finally, both radios include a front-mounted
USB port allowing customers to upload an airfield database containing 200 preferred frequencies and identifiers.
The company's new TMA44 and TMA45 audio panels, meanwhile, are full-featured products with dual-comm and dual-nav
capability, plus a built-in intercom and marker beacon receiver.
The TMA44 supports up to four seat positions and includes mono
entertainment and communication options, while the TMA45 has
additional entertainment features, including Bluetooth wireless
support for music and mobile devices. The TMA45 also handles
up to six seats and includes Trig digital noise reduction to automatically select the optimum level of intercom squelch and mic
threshold, helping reduce cockpit noise. Trig Active Mute feature
further reduces unwanted background noise from radio static.

quality and maximizes customer enjoyment of the unit's stereo
music and entertainment options.

TrueNorth Avionics
TrueNorth Avionics announced that its Simphonē FANS-1/
A+ data link unit received an FAA TSO, marking an important
milestone for the company. TrueNorth's Simphonē FANS-1/A
DLU is a stand-alone component with DO-178B Level D software. The lightweight unit has a small footprint and features a
built-in Iridium transceiver. TrueNorth's DLU also has been successfully tested with Universal Avionics UniLink UL-800/801
Communications Management Unit.
A member of TrueNorth's Simphonē product family, the
FANS 1/A+ DLU is a compact, stand-alone component that
works with a wide variety of existing and new-aircraft flight
management systems using a standard ARINC data interface to
simplify pilot-to-controller communication, reduce errors and
enhance efficiency in congested airspace. TrueNorth said its
DLU works with its Simphonē OpenCabin airborne telecommunications systems and a broad range of other systems to let flight
crews communicate with the ground or other aircraft without
impacting cabin communications.
TrueNorth's Simphonē FANS-1/A+ DLU is FAA-certified
under various TSOs, including C159a (FANS over Iridium), and
is compliant with ARINC 618 for Satcom data units. It's also
compatible with all operational and planned ACARS and AFIS
data link systems. The DLU is compact, requires no cooling or
software setup, and installs with a single connector. TrueNorth
said STC projects are underway aboard a variety of business
and commercial aircraft, including the Beechcraft/Hawker 4000,

2000, 900EX, 50
and 900, Bombardier Challenger
601 and 604, Gulfstream's GII, GIII, G100,
GIV, GIV-SP and GV, and the Boeing 767-200.

Universal Avionics Systems Corp.
Universal Avionics Systems Corp. brought its newest avionics suite, the InSight Integrated Flight Deck, to the AEA
Convention. According to the company, InSight presents a
flexible, adaptable design that's easily installed and configured,
valuable characteristics in retrofit applications. The InSight
Integrated Flight Deck's first installation is on Universal's
Cessna Citation VII, with an STC expected in the second quarter of 2015. InSight also works with forward-fit applications,
and MD Helicopters is the OEM launch customer, aboard the
Next Generation MD Explorer.
Primary hardware components of the InSight

include a 10.4-inch EFI1040 panel acting as
either a primary flight
or multifunction display,
plus an electronic control
display unit, alphanumeric
keyboard and data concentrator unit. Pilot interface
and control of the system
is provided through the
ECDU, a 5-inch flat panel

controller. The ANK facilitates alphanumeric entries and FMS function keys, and includes a
database SD card server. The second-generation data concentrator,
the DCU II, provides analog/digital conversion and concentration.
The InSight display includes an embedded synthetic vision
system with advanced mapping capabilities, electronic charting and graphical flight planning, among other features. The
electronic charting capability includes airway depiction, georeferenced ownship, special use airspace and remaining runway distance. Insight's multifunction display features multiple
pilot-selectable formats with a configurable power-on default
option, while the primary flight display provides pilot-selectable
information display information windows per pilot preference.
Universal said its InSight Integrated Flight Deck is the first in
business aviation to use Jeppesen's Airport Mapping Database.
