Policy to discontinue the World
Aeronautical Chart
On June 23, 201 5 , the Federal Aviation
Administration announced its decision to
discontinue providing the W orld Aeronautical
Chart series. According to the FAA, technological
advances in aviation navigation capabilities
and charting products have made the W orld
Aeronautical Chart series largely obsolete.
Charting customers have shifted toward digital
chart products. The W orld Aeronautical Charts
are a derivative product from a more-detailed
Sectional Aeronautical Chart series. W ith
aviators using the more-detailed large-scale
Sectional Aeronautical Charts and the digital
versions in the moving map technology found in
modern electronic flight bag systems, the W orld
Aeronautical Charts are no longer needed. The
discontinuance of this low-demand product allows
the FAA to apply those resources to continue
to moderniz e charting for safe and efficient
navigation.

Advisory Circular 20-159 - Obtaining
Design and Production Approval
of Airport Moving Map Display
Applications Intended for Electronic
Flight Bag Systems
This notice announces the FAA' s intent to cancel
AC 20-1 5 9. This cancellation will result in no new
approval of technical standard order authoriz ations
for an incomplete system issued for TSO C-1 6 5 -
Electronic M ap D isplay Eq uipment for Graphical
D epiction of Aircraft P osition. Therefore, the
guidance contained in AC 20-1 5 9 allowing
applicants to obtain a design and production
approval using the software and database for an
airport moving map display intended for use on a
Class 2 electronic flight bag for ground operations
will no longer be available.
In M arch 2007, the administrator directed the
FAA to publish guidance by the end of April 2007
to facilitate the use of an AM M D application on
EFBs and to streamline the certification means to
deploy this safety enhancement to address airport
runway incursions. AC 20-1 5 9 provided EFB
AM M D applicant guidance to obtain TSO-C1 6 5
software-only TSO authoriz ation req uiring the
need to obtain a design or production approval.
H owever, AC 1 20-76 C later introduced guidance to
