PS Engineering introduces
new products, celebrates 30
years of business

I

n late May, PS Engineering introduced new
products to the marketplace, part of the
company's year-long celebration marking 30
years in the avionics business.
In 1985, two young engineers went to work in a
basement to solve a problem; conversations in a small
airplane cockpit are uncomfortable at best, impossible
at worst. Eric Persson, and Mark Scheuer, the P and S
in PS engineering, sketched some circuits, connected
some parts, and ultimately started a business called PS
Engineering.
The two engineers sold their first intercoms out
of a car trunk at airshows, and eventually through
placing a small advertisement in a trade magazine. The

grass-roots marketing effort was boosted by word-ofmouth popularity and one critical factor; the things
worked better than anything else available at the time.
Innovations, such as independently gated microphones,
outperformed the competition and gained recognition in
the aviation community. Soon, the aircraft had its first
panel-mounted intercom, the PM1000. With its facility
certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, PS
Engineering moved onto bigger airplanes and markets.
In 1995, the company tackled another project where
it thought performance was lacking. PS Engineering felt
the audio control panel should be more than a collection
of switches and a place to park the marker beacon
receiver. So the company introduced the PMA6000M,
