AEA announces scholarship
winners for 2015-16

The Aircraft Electronics Association's Educational Foundation recently announced the names of the individuals who were awarded scholarships
worth more than $125,000 for the 2015-16 academic year. The scholarship recipients are students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as students from AEA member companies. Individuals interested in one or more of these scholarships may download an application
after Oct. 1, 2015, by visiting aea.net/scholarship. The deadline to submit applications for the 2016-17 academic year is April 1, 2016.

Chuck Freeland Memorial Scholarship

Sean Schafer of Fruita, Colorado, was
introduced to aviation in the Navy as an
aviation electronics technician on the
E6-A. He is currently employed in avionics
program sales for Mid Continent Instruments
and Avionics and plans to use the pilot's
certificate to be more effective and efficient at his job.
Also receiving this award is Donald Ballew of Denton,
Texas, an installer for Tech Aero Avionics, an AEA
member since 2005.

Chuck Peacock Memorial Scholarship

Nikolai Travis of Elizabethtown,
Pennsylvania, is entering his senior year
at Penn State University. He will receive a
bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
He plans to specialize in research and
development of new electrical and electronic
technologies for rotorcraft and vertical lift aircraft.

David Arver Memorial Scholarship

Coryn Porter of Mount Kisco, New York,
will be studying aviation maintenance
science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University. A cadet in the Civil Air Patrol,
Porter was recently awarded the Air Force
Association's Cadet of the Year Award in
her squadron. She plans to pursue her A&P certificate.

Dutch and Ginger Arver Memorial Scholarship

Jarah Gordon of Jasper, Indiana, plans to enroll
in the aviation maintenance technician program
at Vincennes University to earn his A&P
certificate. Gordon interned at Huntingburg
Airport performing general maintenance,
refueling aircraft and shadowing a certified
mechanic. After graduation, Gordon plans to attend the
Aviation Institute of Maintenance to study avionics and earn
his aircraft electronics technician certification.

Field Aviation Scholarship

are both in the avionics program
at Fanshawe College in London,
Ontario, and both participate
on the men's volleyball team.
Recognized for their athletics and their academics, they plan
to pursue their licenses from Transport Canada and become
avionics technicians in either the military or private sector.

Ming Chen of London, Ontario, immigrated to
Canada in 2009. An owner of a variety store,
Chen sought a career change and enrolled in
Fanshawe College's avionics program. He
plans to combine his business administration experience, community involvement and
desire to work in avionics to become an accomplished aircraft maintenance engineer.

Garmin Scholarship
Duncan Aviation Scholarship

Dakota Holbrooks of Gilbert, Arizona,
is enrolled in the aviation maintenance
technology program at Chandler Gilbert
Community College and would like to work his
way into aircraft maintenance and engineering.
His long-term plans are to earn a degree in
aircraft systems engineering and gain enough experience to
help design avionics systems and components.

Bryan Behm of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, plans
to find a career at a maintenance facility close
to the Reading, Pennsylvania, area and begin
as a maintenance or avionics technician. He
is doing an internship with Carolina Turbine
Support and recently won the Pennsylvania
SkillsUSA competition for aviation. A recipient of the
Snap-on Tools scholarship, the Lycoming Engines scholarship and the Penn College aviation scholarship the past two
years, Behm was recently inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor
Society for his academic achievements.
