Garmin - Jerry Smith Memorial Scholarship
Christian Salata of Ann Arbor, Michigan,
is enrolled in the aviation maintenance
technology program at Western Michigan
University. A member of Alpha Eta Rho
aviation fraternity, Salata hopes to combine
his technician skills and his desire to work in
business aviation to become a certified aviation manager
and flight department operations manager.
Johnny Davis Memorial Scholarship
Phat Tran of Houston, Texas, is enrolled
in the aviation maintenance technician
program at the Aviation Institute of
Maintenance in Houston. Once he
completes the program, he will enroll in
the avionics program and work toward his
NCATT aircraft electronics technician certification.
Gene Baker Memorial Scholarship
Michal Brauhn of Ottumwa, Iowa, recently
graduated from high school as the
valedictorian and already has an associate
of arts degree from Indian Hills Community
College. She plans to pursue a doctorate
degree in percussion performance and
education at the University of Iowa. She has received
the Louis Armstrong national award, and the John Philip
Sousa award for experience in the musical arts. Her
father, Richard, is an instructor at Indian Hills Community
College, an AEA academic member since 2011.
Gogo Business Aviation Scholarship
Justin Hughes of Marshall, Michigan, has
been accepted into the aviation maintenance
technology program at Western Michigan
University. Hughes completed an internship
at Duncan Aviation in Battle Creek
where he learned how to inspect airframe
components and perform basic service work on Citations
and Challengers. Ultimately, Hughes would like to earn
his maintenance certificates and work in management and
teach others about aviation maintenance.
Jim Cook Honorary Scholarship
Madison Huntoon of Deland, Florida, is an
aerospace engineering major at EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University. She plans
to work at a company focusing on space
exploration and the development of space
technology. She hopes to help develop
avionics systems that will guide mankind to Mars and
beyond. A recipient of numerous awards, including the
Women of Excellence Award, Huntoon has been on the
dean's list every semester at Embry-Riddle.
L-3 Aviation Products Scholarship
Allison Donaghy of Wasilla, Alaska, is in
her second semester at the University
of Alaska-Anchorage. She is in a
maintenance technician program, but
found her real interest in electronics
after she was tasked with designing a
new panel for an Aeronca Sedan. Living in Alaska,
she is aware of how important aviation is and wants
to be responsible for the instruments that pilots trust
their lives. Donaghy plans to continue to build her
knowledge and experience, and she knows there are
opportunities throughout Alaska from the gravel airstrip
to the Boeing jets operated on the North Slope.

Benjamin Sieloff of Trenton, Michigan, is a
full-time student at the Michigan Institute
of Aviation Technology. He is currently
studying for the oral and practical exams
for his A&P. He recently obtained an aircraft electronics technician certificate from
the National Center for Aerospace and Transportation
Technologies and plans to earn an associate degree
from MIAT. Sieloff will continue his education at
either Sienna Heights or Western Michigan University.
While in school, he also is working full time at Kalitta
Charters at Willow Run Airport.
