ADS-B equipment scheduled maintenance
The following information is from the Federal
Aviation Administration's ADS-B Out final rule
(May 28, 2010, Federal Register).

QUESTION:

Are there any scheduled maintenance
requirements for ADS-B?

ANSWER:

The NPRM did not propose any additional
continuing airworthiness requirements associated
with the installation of ADS-B avionics
equipment. A few commenters questioned
the FAA's plan for continued airworthiness
inspections for ADS-B equipment.

Transport Canada planning delegate
conference for June 2016
After several years of hiatus, the Aircraft Certification branch
of the Transport Canada Civil Aviation authority is planning a
delegate conference slated for June 7-9, 2016. Earlier this year,
industry was consulted through a survey on what topics and
issues should be covered, and asked who would be interested in
developing a session. As usual, it is planning for plenary sessions
and several individual sessions covering a wide range of topics.
Items like LOI, CAR 521 and other regulatory initiatives will be
covered.
However, the TCCA also is recruiting industry members
to prepare and present topics that will be of interest to the
community at large. Whether it is lessons learned on a large
avionics retrofit, flight testing techniques or specific delegation
issues, the topics will be varied.
The planning committee is meeting regularly, and the actual
schedule and slate of presentations has not been set. The
planning committee is comprised of industry members and the

This final rule does not add any continuing
airworthiness inspection requirements.
Transponder-based ADS-B systems will still be
required to meet the requirements of ยง 91.413.
However, ADS-B systems, without a transponder,
do not have any new inspection requirements. The
FAA will use the ground automation system to
continuously monitor ADS-B functionality, which
accomplishes the purposes of a recurrent inspection.

Transport Canada issues NPA for
unmanned air vehicle regulations
The TCCA issued a notice of proposed amendment to address
unmanned air vehicle design, operation and maintenance. During
the last nine years, there have been several meetings with interested members of the industry discussing the needs and issues
with regulating the UAV sector. As there has been exponential
growth in the desire to operate UAVs, it has been determined that
sufficient regulations need to be developed and implemented.
Currently, you may operate a UAV weighing less than 25 kilograms without specific approval, but it must be operated under
specific conditions. Anything more than that weight must have a
specific flight operation certificate issued by the TCCA.
The NPA addresses regulations for UAVs 25 kilograms or
less and for visual line of site operations. The rules will contain
three categories of UAVs: small UAV, complex operations; small
UAV, limited operations; and very small UAV. Each of these cat-
