bit of a challenge replacing them. Not many young people
are venturing into the repair side of the industry.
Delman: We've increased our business for repairing
mechanical and electromechanical accessories - things like
actuators and radar antenna drive units. We're continually
working to evolve our business into the areas we need to be
in to stay in business.
We've added a full array of avionics licenses, including
Class 1, 2 and 3 accessories so we can repair autopilots and
radars, as well.
We also repair a lot of Honeywell equipment. We do a
wide variety of work both as a licensee and as an authorized
subcontractor. We work on the legacy items that Honeywell
has contracted with us to support. That's been a good part of
our business growth recently.
Miner: We continue to see a steady flow of units coming
in for service, as there are still many aircraft using legacy
equipment today. We have added new capabilities that
allow for targeted growth, such as being named the
exclusive U.S. service center for Trig Avionics. We also are
a factory-authorized repair center for Kannad, Honeywell,
BendixKing, United Instruments and others.
Joubert: We have always been about repairs, and we
plan on continuing to go in that area. Part of our customer
service area is maintaining a personal presence in front of
our customers. We are always talking to them to learn what
challenges and obstacles they are facing and then bringing
that information back to our engineering team to find
solutions to those needs.
We don't deal with many aircraft owners directly. We
primarily support charter companies, airlines, maintenance
facilities and other avionics shops. We're here to help find
solutions to their needs.
So what is your business doing now to prepare for
business in 2025?

Semerjibashian: We continue to explore new
opportunities in the aviation/aerospace industry; we offer
a mobile transponder and pitot-static certification service,
NVIS lighting conversions, and other special projects
designing and producing specific instruments for clients.
We're also exploring production of PMA parts for
obsolete instruments and sensors. From time to time, we've

had fairly good-sized clients who have been using our older
products that have been obsoleted out - certain autopilot
systems, for example - they're still using the autopilots but
some of the gyros and other instruments are not available.
We've been redesigning the old units using current
technologies, materials and machined parts. All of our
engineering is done here in house so we can be efficient
in designing and manufacturing small quantities of parts -
unlike the big companies that require a large order. We can
do a handful of parts, and it's no big deal. We can be reactive
to their needs. That's definitely helped us quite a bit.
Delman: We're going to continue to do what we've been
doing the past 10 years or so. We're going to continue to
increase our capabilities in the instrument areas as we can.
We also will be growing our avionics repair capabilities.
Our business is about our employees. We have been
fortunate to hire and retain a talented staff of professionals.
Our focus is providing the best services available in supporting
the needs of our customers. We see a bright future for Otto.
Miner: At Mid-Continent, we continue to focus on being
flexible and listening to what our customers need. New
product and service offerings are often driven by customer
requests and our ongoing observations of what the industry
is looking for or needs.
Joubert: This company has been in business for 33 years,
and we were all young when we started. A lot of our team is
getting older, and one big challenge five to 10 years down
the road is going to be finding replacement technicians
as our folks start to retire. That's another reason we are
actively looking for younger techs. We want to get them
aligned with our senior technicians so they can pass along
that tribal knowledge to the next generation.
To wrap it in a nutshell, we have a lot of good people here
that are committed to the legacy equipment and committed
to customer service. We are committed to GA, and that's
what we intend to do to continue to grow. It's worked for us
in the past, and I see it working for us in the future. q
