Not surprisingly with such a large
crowd, the AEA booth was buzzing
throughout the week, and a record number of pilots and aircraft owners stopped
by Hangar B to pick up their free copy of
the latest edition of the AEA's Pilot's Guide to Avionics.
In addition, hundreds of aircraft owners registered to win
one of five $1,000 awards from the AEA, which must be
used toward an ADS-B compliant installation at an AEA
member repair shop. Five lucky winners left Oshkosh
extremely happy and are ready to schedule their installation to comply with the ADS-B Out mandate with plenty
of time to spare before the Jan. 1, 2020, deadline.
To get a sense of the week's happenings at AirVenture,
here's a brief overview of some of the innovative products introduced and the partnerships formed between a
just a few AEA member companies.
Aspen Avionics and L-3 Aviation Products team to offer
multiple display options for the Lynx NGT-9000
Aspen Avionics and L-3 Aviation Products reached an
agreement to offer an integrated system that includes the
Aspen primary and multifunction displays and L-3's Lynx
NGT-9000 MultiLink Surveillance System. The agreement
extends to joint sales and service support for customers.
"Aspen and L-3 share a common philosophy; we firmly
believe that open systems create more opportunities for collaboration," said John Uczekaj, Aspen president and chief
executive officer. "When avionics manufacturers work
together, it creates a culture of innovation where the outcome can benefit the entire general aviation community −
not only by making avionics more affordable, but also from
the viewpoint of improving overall general aviation safety."
"Aspen is exactly the type of forward-looking company
we enjoy partnering with," said Larry Riddle, L-3 Aviation
Products vice president of marketing and sales for business, regional and general aviation. "What they are doing
for cockpit display technology is what Lynx is doing for
ADS-B technology. The entire community benefits when
avionics manufacturers work together to bring integrated
and affordable technologies to the cockpit."

Aspen and L-3 Aviation Products help NextGen
GA Fund launch Jumpstart-In program
Aspen Avionics and L-3 Aviation Products
will both be included in the NextGen GA Fund's
new Jumpstart GA-In program. The program
is the second in a series of efforts to help ease
the financial burden of ADS-B compliance for
general aviation. Aircraft owners can achieve
compliance and realize the benefits of receiving subscription-free ADS-B traffic and weather
using Aspen displays, coupled with L-3's Lynx
NGT-2500 ADS-B unit.
The program offers three pre-packaged options. All three
packages include an antenna (if required) and a $2,000
installation labor credit. Through this program, aircraft
owners can achieve ADS-B for less than $300 per month.
"There has been a lot of conversations and opinions
about how the general aviation community will be able
to affordably comply with the January 2020 mandate,"
Uczekaj said. "This program cleanly addresses the general
aviation community's concerns from both a compliance and
financial standpoint. The best part about this program is
that general aviation aircraft owners can now upgrade their
panels, increase their aircraft value, and take advantage of
the safety-enhancing benefits that ADS-B In and a glass
cockpit offers."
The NextGen GA Fund product bundles will be offered
for a limited time and must be installed by an FAA-certified
repair station.
Aspen Avionics Angle of Attack receives FAA certification
Aspen Avionics said its integrated Evolution Angle of
Attack indicator has received FAA certification.
According to the company, Aspen's patent-pending solution integrates AOA technology directly into its Evolution
primary flight and multifunction displays through a software upgrade.
"We worked closely with the FAA to integrate Aspen's
AOA technology into our displays in a timely and efficient
manner," Uczekaj said. "The FAA's focus on reducing loss
of control accidents through increased focus on AOA and
efficient certification processes played a large role in our
ability to bring this to market."
