FreeFlight Systems announces compatibility
with Garmin GNS series of GPS navigators
FreeFlight Systems said its line of RANGR ADS-B systems will interface with Garmin's GNS 430W/530W GPS
navigators. This compatibility will increase equipage flexibility as well as provide cost savings for those aircraft currently equipped with 430W/530W navigators.
According to FreeFlight, its certified Blue Box transceiver system, the FDL-978-XVR, was designed with versatility
in mind. The system is available for purchase without an
internal GPS, allowing aircraft owners to utilize their existing GPS source for ADS-B compliance.
This integration was key in reducing costs, as an additional GPS source and antenna are not required. Customers
will have the ability to display ADS-B traffic to their
430W/530W navigator for increased situational awareness.
When paired with a GNS 430W/530W navigator, the
FDL-978-XVR provides full ADS-B capability - the system
will be fully ADS-B compliant, with the added benefit of
subscription-free weather and traffic information.
In addition, FreeFlight Systems unveiled that it is providing ADS-B systems as part of a bundled package that
Blackhawk Modifications is now offering to engine upgrade
customers.
Garmin Team X introduces three new
products and adds new capabilities
Garmin announced the GPS 20A, an ADS-B Out compliant WAAS GPS position source for experimental amateurbuilt and light sport aircraft. For experimental aircraft owners
who already have a Mode S Extended Squitter transponder
such as the GTX 23ES, the noncertified GPS 20A provides a
simple, rule-compliant WAAS position source, which meets
the TSO performance requirements set forth by the FAA.
Additionally, the new GMC 307 autopilot control panel
provides complete autopilot mode control, now including heading and altitude select knobs, while the GSU 25B
ADAHRS provides high-performance aircraft with highly

accurate air data, attitude and heading
information for display on G3X and
G3X Touch. In addition to these three
new products, new software for the GTN
650/750 touchscreen series products also
enables pilots to tune the GTN COMM/
NAV radio(s) from the G3X Touch display.

said Carl Wolf, Garmin's vice president of aviation sales

heritage in developing rule-compliant WAAS GPS systems
to bring the GPS 20A to this market. This simple, cost-effective solution is ideal for thousands of VFR pilots who own
experimental and LSA aircraft that need to meet ADS-B Out
requirements."
In addition to these new products, pilots receive added
functionality between G3X Touch and the GTN 650/750
touchscreen navigators. The latest GTN software provides
G3X Touch owners the option to tune the COMM/NAV
frequency, control radio volume and swap active/standby
COM frequencies of the GTN, from the G3X Touch display.
Garmin also introduced a premier, aviation-specific addition to the VIRB XE action camera family from the experts
in aviation action cameras, providing several new accessories
and unique features tailored to capturing rich, high-definition
in-flight footage. VIRB XE features gyro-based stabilization
and can receive advanced attitude metrics from select Garmin
products such as Flight Stream, while providing up to two
hours of HD video recording on a single charge. Built-in
GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ANT+ combine to provide pilots
with added functionality and enhanced connectivity with a
variety of Garmin products, according to the company.
Garmin Connext expands with
Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck
Garmin and Jeppesen announced an expansion of the
Garmin Connext ecosystem, which broadens compatibility to include Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck. With compatible Garmin avionics, customers can wirelessly receive
ADS-B weather and traffic, as well as display precise
GPS position data and backup attitude information within
compatible products and devices.
"We're excited to have the Jeppesen flagship app join
the Connext umbrella of tablet connectivity," Garmin's
Wolf said. "Expanding the Connext ecosystem also
gives aircraft owners additional options when pursuing
ADS-B solutions and avionics upgrades. Jeppesen Mobile
FliteDeck customers will have the capability to display
ADS-B traffic and weather on their iPad."
