airplane. The same thing applies with a pneumatic truck or
any oil and gas-type of fluids that would have a chance of
getting in."
The biggest reason for Electro Enterprises' recent
growth is the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency's March 2016
stop shipment order against one of the largest connector
manufacturers in the industry. The government suspected the
company of sourcing components from unapproved facilities,
mainly in China.
"Right now, nothing mil-spec can be shipped or built
until they're requalified by the government," Diedrick
explained. "It has created a large gap in the supply chain.
Few distributors have the capacity for value-added services
like we have. It has created an enormous demand that we're
prepared for with our expansive inventory."
Filling in the supply chain gap has led to a 30 to 40
percent sales increase for Electro Enterprises, which
supplies key franchised lines that adhere to the same military
specifications. Electro Enterprises' typical build time is two
to three days, but with the backlog the company is up to 10
days on certain lines, even with more employees working
longer hours and on weekends. Diedrick expects the backlog
to be resolved by the third quarter of 2016.
Building a multimillion-dollar business
Cal and Marty Enright started Electro Enterprises in their
garage nearly 50 years. They chose Oklahoma City because
of its centralized shipping location. Plus, they had family in
the area.
"Tinker Air Force Base is right here, too," Diedrick said.
"It's the largest aircraft maintenance depot in the world. It
issues $7 billion worth of contracts every single year."
Today, the company has grown to 214 employees who
help build and ship components around the globe. It ranks
as the 17th largest distributor in the world, according
to Electronics Purchasing Strategies, a digital news and
resource center for the electronics manufacturing industry.
Five decades later, Electro Enterprises is still family
owned with three generations of the Enright family working
side by side. In addition to Cal and Marty, their son, Andy
Enright, director of operations, and grandson, Mitch Enright,
operations manager, work at the headquarters in Oklahoma
City. Their son, Bud Enright, serves as branch manager in
Fort Worth, while their daughter, Kelly Enright, handles sales
from Dallas.
In 2016, the U.S. Small Business Administration
recognized Electro Enterprises as the largest woman22

owned business in Oklahoma for the third straight year. The
company is applying to join the SBA's HUBZone program,
designed to recognize businesses with a large number of
employees who live in disadvantaged areas.
"It's actually a very big deal, because when companies like
Lockheed or Boeing receive a government contract, they're
required to spend a percentage of that with disadvantaged
businesses," said Diedrick, who expects the designation in
the third quarter of 2016.
Although the company is large, it still operates much
like a small company, according to Diedrick. Leadership
isn't afraid to make changes, especially if they drive better
customer service. For example, during Electro Enterprises'
recent expansion, it located the invoicing department on the
warehouse floor - a seemingly unusual choice at first glance,
but it's been quite helpful. The invoice team can easily
communicate with the shipping department and access parts
in the warehouse.
"We're easy to work with," he said. "Every customer has
one dedicated account manager. The employees know our
customers. They work hard to be responsive, communicate
well, and not over commit. Our quality personnel inspect
everything to make sure all of the parts adhere to the mil-spec,
the customer's requirements, and are packaged the correct
way. It's truly a team effort to keep our customers happy." q
