Jerry Stooksbury of Avionics Specialists

embers of the Aircraft Electronics Association recently
elected Jerry Stooksbury to the AEA board of directors.
With more than 30 years of experience in aviation,
Stooksbury is president and owner of Avionics Specialists (AvSpec) in
Loveland, Colorado.
Aviation has been a part of Stooksbury's life since he was a
teenager learning to fly. His interest in electronics began in those
early years, too, as well as later earning a bachelor's degree in
electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee. After college,
Stooksbury served as a systems engineer for Hewlett-Packard,
including three years in Europe for the company. In the mid-1990s,
he served as technical marketing manager for Garmin.
In 2009, Stooksbury received the Federal Aviation Administration's
National Avionics Technician of the Year Award. The Tennessee
native enjoys merging the precision and problem-solving of his
electronics specialty with the freedom and discipline of flying.
"I love to fly," said Stooksbury, who holds a commercial pilot's
license with single- and multi-engine ratings in addition to his
certified flight instructor certificate with instrument rating. "I've
spent the last three decades as a flight instructor. It helps being able
to understand customers from a pilot's point of view."
In 2004, Stooksbury followed his entrepreneurial interests,
founding Avionics Specialists, focusing on small- to large-scale
avionics upgrade projects for single- and twin-engine piston aircraft,
as well as providing aircraft maintenance and repair services. Today,
AvSpec is an authorized dealer for most major brands including
Garmin, Aspen Avionics, Avidyne, PS Engineering, S-TEC and L-3.
Located at the Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport, an hour
north of Denver, AvSpec has grown to 12 employees.
In 2007, Stooksbury also started AirportView.net, a website that
