CMD Flight Solutions is currently seeking AML STC
certification for ADS-B Out on aircraft equipped with the
Honeywell Primus II radio system. The STC includes the
Textron Aviation Citation 500-series, 650 and 750 aircraft,
Gulfstream G-VI, GIV-X, GV and GV-SP, Beechcraft Hawker
800/1000 series, Embraer 135/145, and Bombardier Global,
Challenger and Learjet 45-series aircraft. This AML covers
pairing the ADS-B Out-compliant transponders with the Honeywell HG2021GD04 or 06 GNSSU, Honeywell KGS-200
WAAS GNSSU, Universal Avionics UNS-1(-)W FMS, and the
FreeFlight Systems 1203C WAAS/GPS sensor.
Overcoming challenges
In the rush to create ADS-B solutions, there have been challenges. Regulatory compliance has become more complicated,
and the ability to maneuver within government agencies is a lot
tougher, according to Buzz.
"I give the FAA and EASA credit as they are trying very
hard to make certification of aviation products easier but the
process is moving slowly at best," he said. "While the Organization Delegation Authorization does help, its overhead costs

and not having unlimited delegation has led some companies to
walk away from them."
Buzz also points to regional differences in the regulations as
especially challenging.
"We support customers throughout the country and world,
each with its own special requirements," he said. "We also face
differing capabilities and knowledge of the STC process from
shop to shop. We have to handle issues such as STC deviations
and local FSDO requirements."
This fall, CMD Flight Solutions expects to release an STC
installation manual for the products it has certified thus far. It's
part of the company's goal to make the STC installation process
easier for avionics shops.
