equipment, and antennas. We ended up putting 20 major
alterations on that aircraft and did all of our own schematics and
drawings."
Timberline operated the AStar under its Part 135 certificate for
a while, then opted to sell the aircraft and purchase an MD530F
that more appropriately fit its utility power line operations.
Today, Timberline handles all of its maintenance, avionics,
paint, inspections and component replacements in-house. Only
overhauls of small components are outsourced.
Modernizing the Blackhawk
Of Timberline's some 50 employees, about a dozen are
dedicated to maintaining the helicopter fleet, while the remainder
help on the operations side. Field teams provide support,
maintenance and repairs for aircraft working on location. The
company is expanding its space, adding a new 6,300-square-foot
hangar in addition to its existing 12,500-square-foot hangar.
