QUESTION:
What are ADS-B In broadcast services?
ANSWER:
ADS-B In pilot cockpit advisory services consist
of Flight Information Service-Broadcast and
Traffic Information Service-Broadcast. These are
free services transmitted automatically to aircraft
equipped to receive ADS-B In.
FIS-B provides a broad range of textual/graphical
weather products and other flight information to the
general aviation community. FIS-B is only available
on the 978 MHz universal access transceiver
equipment. FIS-B includes the following:

Transport Canada plans regulatory
review for CAR Part V
Transport Canada Civil Aviation has begun a
regulatory review for Part V of the Canadian Aviation
Regulations. This review is in addition to the CAR
521 revision currently being worked on. The review
will be completed on subparts 507, 509, 561, 563, 566,
571 and 573. These subparts cover the operational
side of airworthiness, including flight authorizations,
maintenance, manufacturing and AME training.
The intent is to carry out a major rewrite of these
regulations addressing many outstanding issues, old

Aviation routine weather reports (METARS).
Non-routine aviation weather reports (SPECIs).
Terminal area forecasts and their amendments.
NEXRAD (regional and CONUS)
precipitation maps.
Notice to airmen distant and flight data center.

Significant meteorological conditions and
convective SIGMET.
Status of special use airspace.
Temporary flight restrictions.
Winds and temperatures aloft.
Pilot reports.
TIS-B is an advisory-only service available to
both 1090 extended squitter and UAT equipment
users. TIS-B increases pilots' situational awareness
by providing traffic information on all transponderbased aircraft within the vicinity of the ADS-B
In-equipped aircraft receiving the data.
NPAs and adding harmonization efforts.
Throughout the last several years, there have been
changes in the regulatory environment that have
changed the guidelines on issuing standards. The
CARs are currently supported, in many cases, by
standards that were intended to provide clarification
on the regulations. However, over the years, regulatory
content has been added, and with the changes to TCCA
guidance material types, the need for standards has
become less. Therefore, in this process, parts of the
current standards covering Part V will be brought
into the regulations and new advisory circulars will
be written to address the remaining content. Updates
to the guidance material also are planned to reflect
current practice and lessons learned. It is expected that
this review will take four years to complete.
