MID-CONTINENT INSTRUMENTS AND AVIONICS received AS
9100C and ISO 9001:2008 certification for its quality management system following an assessment by Orion Registrar Inc.
"Achieving AS 9100C and ISO 9001:2008 certification provides
a highly-credible basis for maintaining quality and consistency in
the design and manufacturing of our products," explained MARK
SMITH, quality assurance manager for Mid-Continent Instruments
and Avionics. "The certification is universally recognized in the aerospace industry and demonstrates to all of our customers, suppliers
and regulatory agencies that we are committed to a comprehensive
quality management system. Collectively, we all benefit from improved
efficiencies and productivity, elimination of waste, and process consistency."
Orion Registrar Inc. is accredited by the ANSI-ASQ National
Accreditation Board. It is a non-governmental organization that provides certification services to the public and private sectors for the AS
9100C standard.

announced that the company's TB17 (17 amp-hour) lithium-ion enginestart battery will power the new Bell Helicopter 505 Jet Ranger X.

FLIGHTSTAR CORP. obtained a supplemental type certificate to provide a single
Universal Avionics UNS-1Ew FMS with LPV
capability in the Learjet 40 and Learjet 45
series aircraft.
According to the company, this STC
allows for the replacement of an existing Single FMS system with a Universal
Avionics UNS-1Ew along with a Universal
Avionics LPV Monitor system. Offering an
alternative option to adding a second FMS
system, this STC provides fully functional
WAAS GPS with LPV approaches.
"Our solution allows single FMS Learjet
40 and Learjet 45 aircraft a more costfriendly option that allows owners to add
full LPV functionality," stated GREG VAIL,
Flightstar avionics sales manager.
With the ADS-B Out mandate set for Jan.
1, 2020, in the U.S., this STC provides an
alternate solution for GPS position source
compliancy in the Learjet 40 and Learjet 45
series aircraft. The project, including test
flight, was completed in its entirety at the
Flightstar facility in Savoy, Illinois.

FreeFlight Systems
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS obtained an ADS-B AML
STC for Part 27 rotorcraft. According to the company,
FreeFlight's RANGR series offers a range of fully featured,
TSO-certified ADS-B solutions.
The company selected fellow AEA member,
PEREGRINE, to perform engineering services due to
its extensive background in ADS-B efforts and credible

reputation in the aerospace industry.
The FreeFlight Systems RANGR ADS-B product line
was designed from day one to accommodate helicopter
operations. FreeFlight Systems was the first company
to receive an STC for a rule-compliant 978 MHz ADS-B
system for both Part 27 and Part 29 rotorcraft.
