COBHAM AVCOMM announced that the distance measuring
equipment test option for the recently released ATC-5000NG NextGen
Transponder Test Set is now ready for delivery on new test set orders.
Fielded units can be upgraded to include the new DME option.
According to the company, DME still plays a fundamental
role in aviation by determining distance, or slant range, from the
aircraft to the ground station. With the DME option installed, the
ATC-5000NG can be used by repair shops and original equipment manufacturers to test DME airborne systems by emulating
a ground station.
Designed for engineering development, design validation,
manufacturing and return-to-service test applications, the ATC5000NG is the replacement product for the legacy SDX-2000
and the ATC-1400A/S-1403DL test sets.

Globalstar
GLOBALSTAR announced the awarding of a supplemental type
certificate from the FAA for its Part 23 Light Aviation Aircraft Antenna.
According to the company, the issuance of the STC validates
that all quality and safety requirements of the FAA for the
product have been met through rigorous testing and evaluation,
which took place during the past year. The initial issuance was
obtained on a Beechcraft Baron with an additional 700 models
expected to be added to the approved model list.
"This announcement comes on the heels of the recent
announcement to partner with Avidyne to provide new
communications solutions for the higher-end aviation market,"
commented DAVE KAGAN, president and chief operating
officer for Globalstar. "With the newest mobile satellite
communications network available today, we want to leverage
our industry-leading voice capabilities and fastest data speeds
to provide innovative communications solutions to a market
where until now, reasonably priced hardware and service
options were virtually nonexistent."
