Exploring the sold-out exhibit floor
for the latest and greatest avionics offerings - the magic - from manufacturers,
both large and just starting out, was
a major attraction. So was the annual
New Product Introductions segment
of the opening day's activities, and the
keynote address by Federal Aviation
Administration Administrator Michael
P. Huerta. The association also formally
recognized and congratulated those
companies and individuals who have
amassed notable achievements in the
past year and during a lifetime.
If you were there, you know. If you
didn't attend, you missed marketing
yourself and your company to your
peers and customers. You missed more
than 75 hours of professional development and training in regulatory compliance, technical advances and business
management. You missed learning more
about your customers and your vendors, and getting to renew old friendships.
You missed the magic.
State of the industry
David Loso, chairman of the association's board of directors, opened the
2016 AEA International Convention &
Trade Show, welcoming attendees and
noting several policy successes during
the last year enjoyed by the avionics industry and others. For example, he told
attendees, legislation moving through
Congress omitted user fees and air traffic control privatization, and the FAA's
recent proposed rule on reorganizing its
Part 23 small aircraft certification rules
held the promise of streamlining them
and allowing greater flexibility.
In his welcome address, Loso also
had advice for the AEA's and the industry's long-term viability.
