While I'm a strong advocate for healthy competition, we must
stop the race to the bottom in pricing, just to win a job. Low

those prices to a level that allows our shops to remain healthy."
AEA President Paula Derks followed Loso's remarks with
her annual state of the association address. She related her
experience flying to Orlando - with a planeload of families
enthusiastically anticipating the area's magic - and compared
it to the unfolding event, noting the coming days offered opportunities for networking, exploring new business, choosing
from the wide variety of training classes and reconnecting
with colleagues. In essence, she told attendees, the 2016 AEA
International Convention & Trade Show is an opportunity for
attendees to "see what others don't see."
Derks also provided an update on the avionics industry's
accomplishments. The association took a major step to ensure
the timeliness and accuracy of common industry metrics in
2013 when it first published the AEA Avionics Market Report, a
quarterly summary of results shared by companies representing various market segments and volunteering their sales data
with an independent third party. Now in its third year, the AEA
Avionics Market Report is the first of its kind for the avionics
industry's business and general aviation avionics market.
The first-quarter 2016 report showed total worldwide
avionics sales of more than a half-billion U.S. dollars for the
period - slightly more than $566 million, in fact. Of that
quarterly total, 54.7 percent resulted from sales of new avionics equipment installed by airframe manufacturers during
