Rau-Flattery also remains involved in
the daily operation of two other AEA
member companies, Aero Express Inc.,
which specializes in buying, selling, renting, leasing or trading aviation ramp
and bench test equipment, and Express
Calibration Services, which specializes
in the repair and calibration of aviation
test equipment.
The association also recognized its associate members, those deriving a majority of their revenue from manufacturing and/or distributing new or used
avionics equipment, instruments or supplies. The 2016 AEA Associate Member
of the Year is Gogo Business Aviation, a
leading provider of in-flight connectivity
equipment. Started literally as a sketch
on a napkin more than 20 years ago,
Gogo Business Aviation today enjoys
an installed customer base of more
than 17,000 worldwide systems and is
widely credited with many of the airborne communication industry's most
influential achievements. Gogo Business
Aviation has been an AEA member since
1992 - shortly after the napkin concept
was implemented - and sponsors an
academic scholarship each year through
the AEA Educational Foundation.
Keynote address
In his keynote address, Huerta remarked on the technological innovation
the aviation industry has experienced
in recent years, especially in avionics,
and how his agency is responding. "At
the FAA, we can't afford to move at the
old speed of government," he said. "We
have to be willing to innovate the way
we do our work, and we are."
Commenting on recent regulatory
changes affecting installation of nonapproved equipment aboard certificated
aircraft, Huerta told attendees the FAA's
goal is to help improve noncommercial
aviation's fatal accident rate. "In 2014,
