Training
As if these events during the 2016 edition of the AEA International Convention & Trade Show weren't enough to convince you to attend next year in New Orleans, there also were
more than 75 hours of training available to attendees. Opportunities ranged from presentations on business management
- including Financial Management 101 - to an in-depth discussion of what constitutes a major or minor aircraft alteration.
One well-attended training seminar on marketing your company's product or service featured a panel discussion between
three aviation journalists. It focused on the AEA Convention
itself and how companies may want to prepare for another
featured event - the annual New Product Introductions session. Discussion also involved innovative things companies can
do to leverage social media and keep in touch with their customers. (Avionics News will publish in-depth coverage of the
New Product Introductions in next month's issue.)
The list of other available training seminars during the show
reads like a Who's Who listing of the avionics industry itself.
For example, Garmin, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Universal
Avionics, Avidyne, Aspen Avionics, L-3 Aviation Products, Trig

Avionics and FreeFlight Systems - to name but a handful - all
presented detailed discussions of their various products and
their capabilities. These seminars generally emphasized technical characteristics of the product or service, including regulatory compliance and certifications, plus installation details.
Other available training sessions included officials from the
FAA's certification branch presenting detailed information
on ADS-B installation and compliance issues, plus the latest
changes to the agency's published guidance documents, postinstallation compliance monitoring and common mistakes. All
of the convention training is eligible for approved credit toward
the association's Avionics Training Excellence Award, and many
sessions also are accepted for the FAA's IA renewal and its AMT
Awards Program. That's common for the AEA's annual convention, and also will be a feature at future events.
Exhibits ... and magic
When you walked out of one of these detailed training sessions on installing the latest and greatest equipment, you could
stroll onto the exhibit floor to get hands-on experience with
the product itself. That's thanks to the 135 companies who
bought every available inch of the exhibit hall to display their
products and services. Each exhibitor had knowledgeable marketing or technical expertise on hand to answer questions and
