NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTIONS

The BA-440 also can be used to provide terrain avoidance and warning system Mode 5 capability during an LPV
approach using an existing Class A TAWS. This feature is designed for the Universal Avionics UNS-1()W FMS and existing
EGPWS units, for which the BA-440 handles bus switching
and combining for ILS and pseudo ILS while executing an LPV
procedure. The product provides discrete or ARINC 429 fault
annunciation.
Blue Avionics also wants to use its capabilities in manufacturing FAA PMA wiring harnesses compliant with AS9100/
ISO9002 and IPC 620. The company offers low-cost, highquality harness construction configurable to an OEM's
needs, built to exacting standards for both new installations
and upgrades.

CMD Flight Solutions
There's no question the January 2020 mandate for approved ADS-B Out equipment has sparked new markets.
In addition to the one for brand-new, all-in-one ADS-B
Out solutions from the usual suspects, another retrofit/
upgrade market has developed, one designed to provide
in-service upgrades of existing navigation and flightmanagement systems aboard high-end business jets. As
for who might be ahead in that market, Barb Mahoney,
vice president of sales and marketing for CMD Flight Solutions, told attendees her company "is the industry leader
in providing solutions to NextGen mandates on business
and personal aircraft."
Mahoney's company holds numerous FAA Part 23/25
STC/AML approvals for modifications to aircraft equipped
with the Rockwell Collins TDR-94/94D transponder and
paired with either the Universal UNS-1(-)W FMS or Rockwell Collins GPS-4000 line. The solutions bring the affected aircraft
into compliance with the
2020 ADS-B Out requirement while retaining
existing flight management and navigation
systems. The company's
solutions have been applied to
aircraft as varied as Boeing and Beechcraft,
Airbus and Cessna, Dassault and Pilatus.
The company announced FAA approval to add a third
Rockwell Collins TDR-94/94D transponder and GPS pairing
using the FreeFlight Systems 1203C SBAS/GNSS WAAS/
GPS as an approved ADS-B solution. "This new pairing

offers legacy aircraft the opportunity to beat the mandate
and stay within budget," Mahoney told attendees, adding that the company expects to add new equipment to
its approvals, to include the Honeywell Primus II and L-3
NGT-600/800 transponders. She added that CMD Flight
Solutions' STC/AML now includes Bombardier CRJ and all
Dash 8 series aircraft, providing more ADS-B Out solutions
for their operators.

Cobham
Cobham is a world leader in the design and engineering
of aircraft communications, navigation and surveillance
antennas. The company's products include a wide range
of capabilities and features, from single-purpose units to
antennas combining two or more functions, and frequency
ranges, into one. Don Jeckell, director of business development for Cobham Antennas, highlighted his company's
ability to combine functions when he introduced the Comant CI 105-17-L.
The CI 105-17-L is a NextGen/ADS-B UAT solution for
general aviation aircraft. According to Jeckell, it's the only
antenna on the market capable of handling ADS-B Out and
In data communications. The new unit is fully TSO'd - C66c,
C74d, C112e and C154c - and ready to ship. It features a
single leading-edge connector.
A related product is the Comant CI 1085-20-L, which provides NextGen VHF/UAT/ADS-B multifunction capabilities.
It offers pathways for both communications and NextGen
data, both In and Out, and also features a single leadingedge connector. It's approved under five different TSOs,
adding TSO C169a to the approvals applicable to the CI
1085-17-L. According to Jeckell, Honda has accepted the CI
1085 for the HondaJet.
Search and rescue operations also lend themselves
to combining functions and capabilities, and Cobham's
Comant CI 295-300 multifrequency antenna is aboard
a Super Puma helicopter operated by the Los Angeles
County Sheriff's Department. The unit requires 30 percent
less space yet provides three times the functionality. It's
usable in three public service spectrums
- VHF 136-174 MHz, UHF 380-520
MHz and UHF 764-870 MHz - and
also features a single connector.
Installed with a CI 1120-300
triplexer, it provides singleinput, triple-output
flexibility.
