In business since 1978, Switzerlandbased Kuerzi Avionics conducts engineering on all aircraft types, including
hardware and software (DO-178)
development, laboratory and flight
testing, and in-house component
production. The company is an EASAapproved design, production and maintenance organization recognized by
various aviation authorities worldwide.
In addition to all that, Kuerzi Avionics specializes in design, production,
installation, maintenance, repair and
certification of all types of avionics
and electrical systems on rotor- and
fixed-wing aircraft of any size. Robert
Zehnder, managing the company's customer service and business development, introduced Kuerzi's latest multimission systems.
According to Zehnder, advantages of
its multi-mission system for rotor- and
fixed-wing aircraft include customdesigned systems according to operator needs. The Kuerzi MMS features
a control and communication system
implementing an intelligent bus-based
human-machine interface, which the
company said results in quick data
access for information exchange between the aircraft and ground stations,

bridging the gap between
hardware, software and a successful mission.
Another new product from
Kuerzi is a 1,000-watt ACDC converter, with an all-solid-state
control system and featuring variable
frequencies. The company also offers a
line of electrical components performing functions supporting the MMS,
including AC and DC power distribution
outlets, dimmable LED lighting and
lighting controllers, and oxygen system
configuration and monitoring. Wireless
communication to a remote diagnostic
and support system is another feature
of the MMS, along with Bluetooth connectivity aboard the aircraft.
And for installers, Kuerzi has another
new product, its liquid isolator. The
quick-drying liquid functions as heatshrink tubing for oddly shaped or oversize electrical connections.

L-3 Aviation Products manufactures
a diverse line of voice and data recorders, collision avoidance systems, navigation products, display systems and
processors. The company also offers
aftermarket services, including MRO
and integrated performance-based
logistics for military and commercial
systems. Kim Stephenson, L-3's group
manager for aftermarket products,
briefed attendees on the company's
latest products.
The company announced software
updates to its one-box ADS-B Out
solution, the Lynx NGT-9000
touchscreen transponder that
also displays ADS-B In's traffic
and weather data. Stephenson
told attendees L-3 received FAA
TSO authorization to add Class B
embedded terrain awareness warning
system capabilities and ADS-B traffic
advisory system aural alerting options.
The eTAWS option adds an additional

screen displaying surrounding terrain.
The Lynx ATAS option announces
range, bearing and relative altitude of
intruder aircraft through the cockpit
audio system. This feature helps pilots
visually acquire an approaching aircraft by allowing a heads-up approach
to identifying traffic threats.
Another new development from L-3
is TSO approval, plus an FAA STC/AML,
for its ESI-500 standby flight instrument system. The ESI-500, designed for
Class I, II and III Part 23 airplanes and
Part 27 helicopters, is a 3-inch device
incorporating synthetic vision, obstacles, terrain alerting and navigation on
a high-resolution, 24-bit color display.
Flight information presented includes
altitude, attitude, airspeed, aircraft
track, vertical speed, airspeed awareness cues and slip/skid information. An
