In the 1990s, Sandel Avionics was one of the first companies to offer an all-electronic horizontal situation indicator for retrofit applications. Since then, its product line has
expanded to include a variety of flight instruments and
electronics. As Steve Fulton, the company's senior test pilot

explained, Sandel is expanding its reach into the retrofit
market with the Avilon avionics suite for various Beechcraft
King Air models.
Sandel described the Avilon system as "the first flight
deck designed for performance-based navigation, from the
inside out." It's a complete panel makeover for the King Air,
which the company said can be installed in as little as five
days. The system's unitary design means it arrives at the
installer as a prewired assembly, and the panel installs in
a single step. It replaces an in-service King Air's avionics -
including the line-replaceable units, flight instruments and
their wiring harnesses - all at once with a modern system of
smaller, integrated components.
The company said Avilon includes all the components of
a NextGen flight deck: radios, flight management computer,
audio control, ADS-B Out and a flight director/autopilot.
Flight deck information is displayed in a clean, uncluttered,
easy-to-consume format, highlighting the most relevant
data. The patent-pending Avilon Path Guidance Panel is designed to integrate tactical aircraft control with the FMC and
display the projected flight path, which the company said
should make single-pilot operations safer and less stressful.
The company expected Avilon for the 200 series King Air
models to begin shipping in June 2016. An FAA STC is scheduled for later in 2016. Avilon will be available through select
certified dealers and will sell for a guaranteed fly-away price
of $175,000.

form factor in aviation, according to the company. Installation is easy, making it the perfect replacement solution for
legacy 802.11 b/g/n wireless access points. Satcom Direct
said the Hub's advanced hardware and software features
include two ARINC 429 interfaces and supports multiple
SATCOM services and multiple Wi-Fi networks.
When not used in conjunction with the SDR, the SD WiFi
Hub serves as an onboard router and delivers many Satcom
Direct value-added services to the cabin. These include
GlobalVT, which enables voice and text on the user's smartphone in all phases of flight, anywhere in the world, and
more. When partnered with the SDR, the SD WiFi Hub provides up to an additional 900 Mbps data rate to the cabin,
with support for high-definition media products and applications for all passengers.
