Ten weeks of meetings

B

ecause the 2016 Aircraft Electronics Association International Convention & Trade Show was a bit later than
usual this year, and the month after the convention is
normally a time to regroup and get caught up, the transition from
spring into summer seemed especially busy with a variety of meetings. For example, six different conferences stretched from Europe
to North America to Central America and ended in Lee's Summit,
Missouri, with the association hosting the AEA & Federal Aviation
Administration Parts Forum in July. Within a 10-week window
following the AEA Convention, there has been a huge amount of
information flow into the industry. Below is a brief recap.
European Aviation Safety Agency
The second week of May was the semiannual meeting of the
EASA Safety Standards Consultative Committee. While the entire
structure of the SSCC is being reworked, the May meeting was
technically the last meeting. The subcommittees will continue
through the EASA Stakeholder Advisory Body and Stakeholder
Technical Body. The AEA, in partnership with the General Aviation
Manufacturers Association, has been participating in the SSCC
Engineering & Maintenance subcommittee for nearly a decade
and will continue as the E&M transitions to the new Stakeholder
Technical Body. While the scope of the SSCC will be changing
fairly dramatically, the function of the E&M subcommittee appears
to be relatively unchanged as it transitions to the new STB format.
The 2017 AEA Europe Connect Conference will have a full report
of the change.
The association's contact with EASA personnel is reinforced
through the SSCC E&M and now the SAB, STB, as well as the AEA
Europe Connect Conference. In fact, this is the catalyst for the AEA's
quarterly European visits to member shops. If your shop would like a

AEA Certified Repair Station Training Course
The third week of May brought the semiannual AEA Certified
Repair Station Training Course to AEA headquarters. This weeklong,
40-hour training program was built to support AEA member companies (and prospective companies) as they initially apply for their
certificates and maintain their repair station operations. One of the
greatest challenges to repair station operations is the management
of processes and the manuals that document those processes. This

lations to auditing to organizing manuals. No, there are no manual
templates. Unless your business is a template, a template won't do.
But there are page and organizational templates that help guide the
applicant through the documentation of the maintenance processes.

Rotorcraft Avionics Forum
The end of May brought the Rotorcraft Avionics Forum in
Fort Worth, Texas. The AEA originally organized this forum in
cooperation with the FAA's Rotorcraft Directorate to address
unique avionics design, certification and installation challenges. In the past three years, this semiannual forum has
grown and is now presented in partnership with the Helicopter
Association International and GAMA along with the FAA.
