aviation training

ust outside the city of Hannover in north central
Germany, not far from the port city of Hamburg,
the North Sea coastline and the Harz mountains,
Avionics Academy helps technicians, pilots and aviation
managers stay on the leading edge of the avionics
industry.
"We concentrate on how the newest
developments in avionics - such as a
new generation of crimping technology
for technicians or new navigation
systems for pilots - can make their work
life easier and more efficient," said
Christoph Santel, head of development
and consulting for Avionics Academy.
Since opening in 2015, the company
has enrolled more than 100 students
in its courses, which topics include
navigation systems, RVSM, ADS-B,
installing individual avionics systems,
aviation legislation, human factors and
more. The focus is on refresher training and continuous
education for trained personnel rather than traditional
A&P training.
"A good example of this is our innovative courses
on Fluke Connect," said Santel, who also is an avionics
engineer, human factors researcher, instrument-rated pilot

and flight instructor, and is responsible for developing
courses for Avionics Academy.
"Fluke is a large manufacturer of electronics test
equipment, not necessarily focused on the aviation
domain. They have just begun to equip their whole
product line with Bluetooth technology. Along with
the ability to share measurement data
worldwide via the internet, this opens up a
whole new way of troubleshooting avionics
problems on an aircraft. We developed use
cases of how this technology can make
avionics work easier in the future. Also, we
created a course concept to show avionics
technicians how they can make the most of
Fluke Connect and work more efficiently
by sharing their measurements."
In addition to applying credit toward
the AEA's Avionics Training Excellence
Award, most of the company's courses
designed for avionics technicians are
accepted by the European Aviation Safety Agency as
continuous/refresher training. Along with its partners,
Avionics Academy also is able to offer initial avionics
technician training in keeping with EASA Part 147
regulations.
