GARMIN GOES LARGE AT AIRVENTURE

The FAA's approval covers both VFR and IFR
operations "as a primary source for aircraft attitude or
turn coordination information and secondary source
for altitude, airspeed and vertical speed in a single
instrument," according to the company.
"This economical installation and upgrade path
revolutionizes general aviation by bringing modern
attitude reference to thousands of aircraft that would
otherwise depend on older, vacuum-driven equipment.
And Garmin hit a sweet spot on the economics.
Garmin set the G5's retail price at $2,149 for the
standard unit. With the optional GPS antenna - which
enhances its data and provides backup data in the event of
an AHRS loss - the price is $2,499. Both prices include
an installation kit, the backup battery and STC. Deliveries
of the approved G5 are expected to begin in September.
Garmin updates Pilot iOS app: Adds
support for Jeppesen terminal charts
For many pilots - particularly airline and businessaircraft aviators - Jeppesen charts stand as the gold
standard in navigation data. Now, users of the Garmin
Pilot electronic flight bag on Apple iOS devices can
opt for the option to use Garmin Pilot running Jeppesen
terminal charts.
The step surprised many since Jeppesen offers its
own Mobile FliteDeck EFB software, but the company
recognized the immense popularity of Garmin's EFB
package, and the two companies entered into an
agreement allowing Garmin Pilot users a new option for
their chart services.
Customers already subscribed to a Garmin Pilot
IFR premium subscription and Jeppesen data now
can access the Jeppesen products through the Garmin
application at no additional charge. Those lacking either
subscription will need to subscribe to both to gain the
access; those with the Garmin Pilot app but lacking an
electronic Jeppesen chart subscription will need the
Jepp subscription to use their Garmin Pilot running
Jeppesen's terminal charts.
Garmin enhances Connext with
new service packages
Garmin added new service packages for Connext in
an effort to expand the appeal of the hardware package.

and data service packages with new pricing tiers for
global weather and connectivity.
Two new aircraft-use-based plans were unveiled,
combining continuous weather updates, voice calling, and
unlimited text messaging for aircraft equipped with the GSR
56 satellite datalink transceiver. Operators with compatible
avionics may opt for a plan starting at a monthly rate of
$79.99 for up to 150 hours of service annually.
The Garmin Connext Weather 150 plan provides
worldwide weather updates at 10-minute intervals,
30 minutes of voice per month and unlimited text
messaging.
Garmin's Connext Weather 400 provides users
averaging 400 flight hours per year access to weather at
five-minute intervals, plus unlimited voice and text.
Customers who own or install a GTN 750 or GTN
650 can save $1,800 through the end of the year when
a new GSR 56 is purchased with a new Connext
subscription. Existing GSR 56 customers receive a
three-month account credit by subscribing to Connext
before Dec. 31 of this year.
Flight Stream 510 brings wireless
MultiMedia card to Garmin's GTN products
Operators flying behind one of Garmin's new
touchscreen all-in-one communicator/navigator boxes,
the GTN series, soon need not opt for a Flight Stream
110 or 210 to gain connectivity between the installed
avionics and portable tablets running EFB software.
The company miniaturized the hardware and program
software down to the size of a MultiMedia card in a
product Garmin dubbed Flight Stream 510.
Users need merely to insert the 510 multimedia card
in the card slot of any GTN navigation system and
run the setup steps to gain the benefits of the Flight
Stream 210 - with no wiring or hardware changes in
the aircraft. The Flight Stream 510 enables Garmin's
new Database Concierge by employing the 510's Wi-Fi
capability to automatically transfer databases from
Garmin Pilot to the GTN series. With the 510, operators
no longer need to remove the GTN data card, update it,
reinsert it and load the database update.
The 510 also works with Garmin's G500/G600 when
paired with an installed GTN. After updating a GTN
database, the same update gets automatically transferred
and synchronized with either the G500 or G600 integrated
avionics packages. And pilots can use updated charts
immediately during the synchronizing process courtesy of
Garmin's chart streaming feature.
