information directly to the iPad," said Avidyne CEO Dan
Schwinn. "It's a novel concept, but we see it as a way
of giving owners of legacy aircraft who might otherwise
never have installed big glass the ability to now have
access to synthetic vision on a large screen."
Avidyne's ARS enables the display of dynamic synthetic vision with full-motion, three-dimensional "out-thewindow" views as well as an exocentric "in-trail" view
of the aircraft and nearby terrain, obstacles, traffic and
terrain. The IFD550 also gives pilots the ability to toggle
SynVis off and view a traditional blue-over-brown attitude
display, as well as overlay of horizontal and vertical deviation indicators, a total velocity vector/flight path marker,
and adjustable field of view.
All of this data can be wirelessly connected to Avidyne's
IFD100 iPad app and displayed in a big glass format.
Additionally, Avidyne showcased its compact IFD440
FMS/GPS wirelessly connected with an iPad Pro - the
biggest of the iPad family with its 12.9-inch diagonal display - to drive home the message that big glass is available for virtually any general aviation aircraft.
In other announcements from Avidyne, the company
unveiled:
* An expanded list of compatible third-party applications that can communicate wirelessly with
Avidyne's full line of IFD Series FMS/GPS systems. Apps currently supported include ForeFlight
Mobile, FlightPlanGO, Seattle Avionics FlyQ,
AvPlan EFB, Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck, Cloud
Ahoy and AeroGlass.
* Ongoing development of software releases that add
ADS-B compatibility for the Entegra Release 9
Integrated Flight Deck as well as for the company's
EX-series multifunction displays. Release 9.4 adds
support for Avidyne's AXP322 remote-mount transponder for ADS-B Out, and compatibility with
Avidyne's SkyTrax100 receiver for ADS-B In. This
release adds support for vertical guidance for GPS
approaches (LP+V), and also enables the Take Off/
Go Around feature for R9-equipped Cirrus aircraft
that have the DFC100 autopilot. R8.2 enables the
display of ADS-B In traffic and subscription-free
FIS-B weather on Avidyne's EX500, EX600, and
EX5000 Series MFDs using Avidyne SkyTrax100
receiver or SkyTrax200/210 transceivers.
* Teaming with Master Instructor Gary Reeves and
PilotSafety.org to develop new, in-depth train56

Dynon Avionics
Long a leader in filling the panels of experimental and
light-sport aircraft with sophisticated glass-cockpit avionics, from primary flight displays to multifunction displays
and engine-monitoring displays, Dynon unveiled its mostsophisticated display package yet, the new SkyView HDX
series.
Available this fall in two sizes - a 10-inch and a 7-inch
- the SkyView HDX features high-resolution displays
with rich colors, smooth motion and fine detail comparable to high-resolution television and computer screens.
Similar to Dynon's previous displays, the HDX series
offers dual interfaces, both a touch-sensitive screen control and a row of input buttons. But instead of mounting
the buttons flat on the bezel surrounding the screen, the
buttons are installed on an angled surface that protrudes
slightly from the bottom edge of the box, giving the pilot
a place to rest a finger when using either interface.
Dynon also kept in mind its existing customers by making the HDX series SkyViews wholly compatible with
the same components and modules as existing SkyView
systems. The HDX series also features the same mounting
footprint and wiring as other SkyView displays, making
for easy drop-in upgrading in aircraft already flying with a
SkyView system.
Additionally, the SkyView HDX displays can work sideby-side with SkyView Touch and SkyView Classic displays.
Dynon priced the SkyView HDX displays, respectively,
at $4,490 for the 10-inch model and $3,190 for its 7-inch
companion.
