growing and improving the business.
What do you think the industry does well?
I think the AEA, especially with its Connect
conferences and the AEA International Convention
& Trade Show, is an excellent way for us to get
together and discuss industry events, regulatory
requirements and new products, and to cultivate
relationships between ourselves - both shops and
vendors. It is nice when we have respect for each
other and help each other throughout the year.
What do you like most about the AEA?
If it weren't for the relationships that I have with
other shop owners and vendors through the AEA,
I may not have had the encouragement to venture
out on my own and start a new avionics shop. Now I
have a hard time seeing myself doing anything else.
Why did you want to serve on the board?
I wanted to give back to the association and
industry that makes it possible for me to have a
successful avionics business.

What does being on the AEA board of directors
mean to you?
It is a formal commitment from me to help
represent the interests of other members to the
association and to help represent the association
to other members, potential members, and
others in the aviation and avionics industry.
Is there anything specific you hope to accomplish
as a board member?
I would like to encourage other members to
become more active within the association. For
some, that means trying to attend conventions
and/or AEA Connect conferences annually. For
others, it may mean serving on a committee or
board.
I also would like for us, as an industry, to feel
comfortable quoting and charging the customer
what we are worth and what it actually takes
to accomplish the job and be profitable. MSRP
and list prices don't mean anything when the
majority of us are giving away half or more of
our dealer margins on parts and underbidding
labor estimates to be competitive with each
other. Most all of us have full hangars with
work scheduled out several months. There is an
equipment mandate. q
