AEA awards five aircraft
owners with $1,000
toward ADS-B installation
To help incentivize owners of general aviation aircraft
to meet the Federal Aviation Administration's ADS-B Out
mandate in the U.S., the Aircraft Electronics Association
awarded five aircraft owners with $1,000 toward an ADS-B
compliant installation during the Experimental Aircraft
Association's AirVenture Oshkosh, July 25-31, in Wisconsin.
This year marked the third consecutive year that the AEA
has made the $1,000 award available to five aircraft owners.
Hundreds of aircraft owners visited the AEA's AirVenture
booth in Hangar B at Wittman Regional Airport and
registered for a chance to win one of the five awards. Each
of the winners must have their installation scheduled by Aug.
1, 2017, at an AEA member repair station of their choice.
The five $1,000 winners were: Al Friend of Holland,
Michigan; Roger Bullock of Bellbrook, Ohio; D. Eric
Abrams of Boston, Massachusetts; Jack Reynolds of Bolivar,
Missouri; and Craig Souter of Sedgwick, Kansas. q

SMS Coordinator Training available Oct. 4

More and more customers and international authorities
are asking for safety management systems from Aircraft
Electronics Association members.
To satisfy their needs, the AEA has developed a proprietary SMS program designed for maintenance organizations,
sized for small businesses and leveraged by the 900-strong
repair station membership. This program has been coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration and Transport
Canada Civil Aviation, as well as discussions with the
Australian government's Civil Aviation Safety Authority and
the European Aviation Safety Agency for future acceptance.

Presented by Ric Peri, AEA vice president of government and industry affairs, the training will provide a solid
overview of modern safety principles, the International
Civil Aviation Organization guidance on SMS implementation and the use and operation of the proprietary AEA
SMS program. This training program is mandatory for a
repair station's accountable manager or SMS coordinator (if designated) in order to enroll a repair station in the
AEA SMS program.
