etCity Engineering has spent more than a quarter
century weaving its way into the fabric of business
aviation in Melbourne, Australia. The company
has FBO, charter and maintenance bases at both Melbourne's
Tullamarine International Airport and its general aviation
Essendon Airport.
On the charter side, the company was once the only operator out of Tullamarine, according to its founder and managing
director, Lorne Cole. "As our business grew, we discovered that
the availability of good facilities necessitated the move back

to Essendon for maintenance services and charter services,"
he said. "We still have the FBO and line service maintenance
at Tullamarine. We handle heads of state, military contracts
for Royal Australian Air Force VIP; including two BBJs and
Challenger 604s aircraft, among other contracts."
Building a relationship
The company's relationship with Honeywell goes back to its
acquisition of several Bombardier Learjet 30 series aircraft that
were retrofitted through JetCity's avionics shop.
"We started with the Lear 30, which had analog technology," explained Travis Stephens, JetCity Engineering's director
of avionics. "These were medevac predominantly; we needed
ways to keep the reliability high. We were continuously looking
at ways to improve the aircraft. Back then we were incorporating the Honeywell weather radars and multifunction displays,
TCAS and ground proximity warning computers."
It wasn't until that fleet needed upgrading, however, that
JetCity began to see the value of a tighter alliance with a large
manufacturer such as Honeywell.
"Back in 2013, when we started to upgrade our Learjet
fleet from the 30 series to the Bombardier Learjet 45s, which
contain a predominantly Honeywell suite of avionics up front,
we looked toward aligning ourselves a little stronger with
Honeywell," Stephens said. "We received our first aircraft from
that lot, LJX, in September that year, and one of the first things
we did with that aircraft was enroll it in Honeywell's HAPP
