Following the recent presidential election in
the United States, President-elect Donald Trump
named Elaine Chao to lead the Department of
Chao served as the labor
secretary under President
George W. Bush from
2001 to 2009, becoming
the first Asian American
woman to serve in the
president's Cabinet. She is
married to Senate Majority
Leader Mitch McConnell of
Chao also served as the deputy secretary of
transportation under President George H.W.
Bush from 1989 to 1991.
The Department of Transportation oversees
the Federal Aviation Administration and several
other agencies. q
AEA scholarship applications
The Aircraft Electronics Association will award more than
20 scholarships totaling more than $125,000 for the 2017-18
school year to students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft
maintenance, as well as students from AEA member companies.
Since its inception, the AEA scholarship program has
awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships. Numerous
awards are available, ranging from $1,000 to more than $35,000 each.
Scholarship applications are available online at aea.net/scholarship. The deadline to submit
applications for the 2017-18 academic year is April 1, 2017. q
