the aisles at many shows and
you'd think that some companies
had simply relocated for a few
days from their headquarters to the
show floor - employees texting,
reading email, chatting among
themselves as potential customers
pass the booth.
Your trade show booth is a store
- it's not your temporary office.
And just as you'd be stunned to
walk into a store and be ignored

by the clerks who were either
socializing or had their noses in
their phones, showgoers expect
you to interact with them.
Finally, define what success
looks like. The most-effective
trade show marketers thrive on
metrics. They measure visitors,
demos, leads, conversions, number
of giveaways, booth traffic and
other elements of trade show
participation. Set some corporate
goals for the show and make sure
your staff knows what they are.
If you meet or exceed the goals,
terrific. If you don't, at least you
will know how you did and can
make course corrections for the
next show on the calendar. q
