SANDIA AEROSPACE was granted an additional TSO
from the Federal Aviation Administration on its SAI 340 Quattro
multifunction indicator. In addition to attitude, altitude, airspeed
and slip, the SAI 340 is now TSO'd for instantaneous vertical
speed.
According to Sandia, unlike a standard VSI that has a six- to
eight-second lag, the SAI 340 gives virtually immediate vertical
speed indications. The vertical speed is shown on the SAI 340
in both a tape and digital format. In addition to the IVSI, the
new software version adds an adjustable altitude bug.
The SAI 340 is a stand-alone attitude indicator suited for
standby applications with today's glass cockpits. It is also
suitable as a stem gauge replacement unit in older aircraft.
The SAI 340 has an internal battery that provides two hours
of standby operation in case of loss of aircraft power. The
lithium-ion battery is enclosed in a metal case and meets the
requirements of RTCA DO-347, ensuring safe operation. With
the addition of the IVSI TSO, the SAI 340 now holds eight
separate TSOs, according to the company.

FreeFlight Systems
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS announced that National
Flight Services, a helicopter maintenance and avionics
installation facility, selected the company's RA4000
and RA4500 series radar altimeters for its mobile
installation program. National Flight Service began
installs during the first week of January and will equip
more than 25 helicopters operating under Part 135
tourism operations in the southern United States,
according to the company.
This installation is in response to the FAA mandate
that requires Part 135 and airborne medical transport
operators to equip with additional safety equipment
such as radar altimeters aimed at improving situational awareness and safety. The equipage deadline for
this requirement is April 24, 2017.

ALTO AVIATION named MIKE NEDOROSCIK
audio systems engineer, joining the company's engineering team in Sterling, Massachusetts.
Nedoroscik is a graduate of
Northeastern University and brings
experience in electro-acoustic
design, system modeling and simulation, prototyping, acoustic testing and regulatory procedures.
According to the company, he
will be responsible for tuning airMike Nedoroscik
craft audio systems through acoustic measurement and analysis of cabin in all aircraft
platforms for business aviation, being also involved in
designing, troubleshooting and implementing new audio
systems, including PA and cabin management systems.
