After 47 years, this de Havilland Canada DHC Beaver was a patchwork of equipment updates. In 2013, Mid-Canada Mod Center's technicians created
a modern cockpit, installing a Garmin G600 dual integrated flight display, Garmin GTN 750 nav/comm, Garmin GTS 825 Traffic Advisory System, and
Garmin GRS 77 Attitude and Heading Reference System.

Engineering expertise
Mid-Canada Mod Center's multitalented staff
designs, engineers and installs components
and connections, panels and systems. The
organization boasts a long list
of supplemental type certificates
and many firsts.
According to Arsenault,
MC2 was the first to install and
certify TrueNorth's Simphonē
Chorus and Optelity Pro cabin
communications systems. The
service center also certified the
Simphonē FANS-1/A+ Data Link
Unit on a Falcon 50, Airbus A310,
and most recently on a Challenger 604.
In 2015, Mid-Canada Mod Center completed its STC
for a FANS upgrade on a Challenger 604. The upgrade

includes a Universal UNS-1LW Flight Management
System, Universal CVR120R Cockpit Voice Recorder,
Universal UL 801 Communications Management
Unit, Universal Solid State Data Transfer
Unit, True North Avionics
TN1007-100 Data Link Unit,
and a Miltope printer. MidCanada Mod Center recently
added Federal Aviation
Administration approval.
"FANS essentially deals
with digital crew-to-ATC
communications," Arsenault said.
"Having a separate control unit frees
up the existing CDUs to be used for their intended
purpose - navigating the aircraft. Nearly all airliners
