CPDLC CDU for this function. Our STC was designed
around that philosophy."
Not all of Mid-Canada Mod Center's projects pertain
to business aviation. For example, last year, the service
center upgraded several ATR 42 and 72 twin-turboprop
aircraft, installing dual Universal Avionics UNS-1Lw
SBAS-FMS and dual Sagem APIRS (Aircraft Piloting
Inertial Reference System) AHRS systems. Based at
several Northern Canadian airports, the airliners offer
scheduled, chartered and freight services into remote
communities and special tourist destinations.
Looking ahead
While MC2 specializes in commercial and business
aviation as well as charter operations, its sister company,
AEA member Kitchener Aero of Breslau, Ontario,

handles mostly general aviation and regional carriers.
The service centers do work together occasionally on
projects, mostly sharing staff when the workload is high.
"We get busy, for sure," Arsenault said. "We're
particularly focused on ADS-B and FANS at the moment.
Our Canadian stats indicate that as many as 2,000 aircraft,
including helicopters, could be affected by the ADS-B
deadline. That is a lot of work that could get crunched into
a last-minute rush for compliance. We're trying to help
with that so operators aren't stuck out in the cold." q
