explained. "It was right after 9/11 and everyone was
scared to fly."
No one, including Swehla and his partners, knew
the future of aviation. As it turned out, it was an ideal
time to buy. "We bought it at a low price, and corporate
aviation did come back," he said. "At first, we thought
our timing was bad, but it turned out that it was an
opportunity. Everyone has to take a risk."
Swehla deflects credit for his success to the West Star
"Without the group of people we have, it would have
been tough to grow the business," he said.
He also credits the relationship he and his team have
developed with customers over time, saying "We've
had both customers and employees follow us. We have
great paint and interior craftsmen, avionics, engine and
maintenance technicians. We are fortunate with our
customer and employee base."
In fact, interacting with his employees is the favorite
part of his job.
"Our people are the best," he said. "We have a highquality group where everyone focuses on quality and
customer satisfaction. We all love the airplanes, but
without the people, we wouldn't have anything."
His relationship with customers extends to his life
