outside the office, as well. With
a boat based at the Lake of the
Ozarks, Swehla enjoys fun times
with his wife, Gina, and daughter,
Nicole, along with customers and
friends. "We're like a big family,"
he said. "Sometimes it's hard
to separate my family from my
aviation family since we do so
much together."
When it comes to Nicole, who is
16 and a sophomore in high school,
Swehla is her personal Uber, taking
her to her basketball and volleyball
games and track meets. In addition
to boating, Swehla enjoys an
occasional golf game.
Today, Rasberry is based in
Wichita, Kansas; Swehla and
Haycraft are based in Illinois; and
Durst in South Carolina. "All four
of us are involved in each of the
businesses as partners," Swehla
said.
More expansion is in the future
for West Star Aviation. A number
of locations are being scouted for
possible growth later in the year.
"We also want to grow our
existing facilities and enhance
them," he said. "Our plan is to
build a new paint facility in East
Alton and Chattanooga, and
add a maintenance hangar in
Grand Junction." The company
also is exploring partnerships
with airframe and avionics
manufacturers.
"Corporate aviation is a
necessary tool for both businesses
and individuals," he added. "The
worse the airlines can make it, with
lost luggage and delayed flights, the
better it is for us. We believe the
future of corporate aviation looks
bright, and we are proud to be part
of such a great industry." q
