Developing early SAR technology
McMurdo's legacy dates to 1976 when James Audren started
SERPE, an electronics lab turned safety devices manufacturer,
in Lorient. Orolia acquired the company in 2009.
"James Audren had a real entrepreneurship spirit," Belleux
said. "He proposed one of the first 406 MHz emergency
beacons using the Cospas-Sarsat satellite search and
rescue. Located on the seaside, where the fishing

industry is strong, James had the ambition to improve the
fishermen's safety. These innovations were well received by
the local community and then developed internationally."
In 1995, an Airbus aircraft received the first Kannad ELT
installation on a commercial aircraft. Since then, McMurdo has
developed ELTs and personal locator beacons for all aviation
markets, from light experimental aircraft to large commercial
aircraft such as the A380.
In January 2017, McMurdo expanded its leisure market
with its new Integra Easy installation kit, which includes the
Integra ELT, remote control panel, connectors and external
antenna. The kit is compatible with 121.5 MHz ELT interfaces
no longer monitored by Cospas-Sarsat.
