an offshore platform-based
system that listens to the
ADS-B squitter, then uplinks
information to the aircraft to
give the pilot an extra dimension
of situational awareness.
Palu's Advanced NextGen
Landing System, or ANGLES,
won't be in service for a few
months. The first version will
be available for sale in the
future. The collaboration takes
advantage of Palu's experience
with optical landing equipment
and FreeFlight's experience
with data link. Taylor called it
a "marriage of capabilities."
Currently, everyone is focusing
on the equipage phase of the 2020
mandate, but the true gain will
come after everyone is equipped.
"That's the future," Taylor said.
Once everyone is equipped
with ADS-B, the next phase
is ready to start with new and
innovative applications of the
technology.
"What can you do with it?"
Taylor asked. "We are good at
thinking of those things."
The FreeFlight Systems
collaborative philosophy has
been part of the company
culture from the start, and in
