Attendees were presented the latest
updates in the international regulatory
arena, offered with special emphasis
on critical topics like the FAA's soonto-be-implemented Part 23 rewrite,
which prescribes the certification and
approval of small aircraft and their
equipment. The new rules go into
effect Aug. 30, 2017, and will bring
major, long-term changes to the ways
in which such aircraft are maintained
and modified.
This year's AEA Regulatory
Forum, an annual discussion between
association members and FAA
leadership, focused on the agency's
internal reorganization and its impact
on avionics shops and certified
repair stations. Tim Shaver, the
FAA's Aircraft Maintenance Division
manager, presented an update for
attendees on what they can expect.
Also, Jens Hennig, vice president of
operations for the General Aviation
Manufacturers Association discussed
ATC modernization throughout the
world and the impact on avionics
mandates.
Meanwhile, manufacturer's
representatives from companies like
BendixKing, L3 Aviation Products,
Avidyne, Universal Avionics Systems
Corp. and Aspen Avionics conducted
detailed technical training in avionics
installation, configuration and
troubleshooting. Skilled engineers and
other personnel from participating
companies were available to explain
and demonstrate complicated
installation and configuration
tasks, plus popular options,
type-specific considerations and
in-service troubleshooting. Business
management training and professional
development sessions also were
