TrueNorth Avionics
Founded in 2006, TrueNorth Avionics designs, develops
and manufactures satellite communications solutions for
business jets and avionics OEMs. The company's Optelity
family of cabin communications systems delivers highfidelity voice, fax, and Wi-Fi solutions, enabling connectivity for mobile devices and flight deck data. TrueNorth's
Simphonē Pro Systems support all satellite-based (L-band,
Ka-band and air-to-ground) connections. According to
TrueNorth, "More Fortune 100 business jet operators trust
our in-flight communications systems than any other."
Late last year, Satcom Direct acquired the company, and
is combining SD's router components and flight operations
platform with TrueNorth's advanced avionics to "give aircraft
operators an unrivaled ability to manage their aircraft communications systems, while giving passengers a user experience, which exceeds their expectations," as Jim Jensen, SD's
founder and CEO, said when the acquisition was announced.
"We're bigger and we're better" is how TrueNorth's Jeff
Beutel described his company for AEA Convention attendees from the viewpoint of a few months after the acquisition was completed. "We are pushing the envelope, and
working to give you, our dealer network and your customers, the confidence that SD's solutions are not only a longterm strategy for airborne connectivity but also for asset
management and corporate security." Benefits to dealers
and customers the company identified from combining SD
with TrueNorth include an enhanced product road map plus
a larger and more-effective customer service organization.
With all that taking place, TrueNorth introduced
FliteStream, which the company called business aviation's
only simultaneous live television and internet system.
Using only one tail-mounted antenna, which saves weight,
fuel and expense while improving system reliability and
availability, the Ku-based satellite system is the fastest
on the market and offers two-in-one global functionality,
according to Beutel. He added that SD is the exclusive
service provider for the FliteStream T-220, which uses the
proven Panasonic network.
