The plenary session on the second day discussed the challenges of developing performancebased regulations without jeopardizing the fundamentals that have made aviation so safe. The technical sessions on the third day included: * Challenges and opportunities in new technology. * Regulator and industry collaborative efforts. * Challenges and opportunities: unmanned aircraft system. * Defining a way forward for manufacturer (U.S., EU, and others) to comply with the EASA's operational suitability data requirements. NPA 2017-03: In-flight recording for light aircraft This NPA proposes to mandate the carriage of lightweight flight recorders for some categories of light airplanes and light helicopters when they are commercially operated and manufactured three years after the date of application of the amending regulation. In addition, this NPA proposes to promote the voluntary installation of inflight recording equipment for all other light airplanes and light helicopters and for all balloons. The proposed changes are expected to increase safety with limited economic and social impacts.
