and partnership that industry needs
from the colleges, while the colleges
need the initiative from industry to
identify skills gaps and partner with us
to help fulfill that unmet need.
Avionics is an expensive program,
costing nearly $500,000 to implement.
That's a lot of money for a public
institution. The board of trustees used
$300,000 to launch the program. The
remainder of the funds were allocated
through the college operating budget
and through smaller grants from the
state and local industry. Fluke Corp. has
provided us $38,000 worth of electronic test equipment, a critical need
for avionics training. Dynon Avionics
has donated a working mock-up of a
general aviation glass cockpit, valued at
$25,000. Without this kind of industry
support, we wouldn't have been able to
respond with what we have done. While
they are helping us to train avionics
techs, ultimately, industry creates for
themselves a workforce pipeline.

Prosch: At the recent Aviation
Technical Education Council Conference, Delta announced the first 38
partner schools to help fill this pipeline
of A&P and avionics technicians. We
are proud that we were selected as
one of that group. In particular, Delta
representatives were extremely pleased
that we had implemented this advanced
avionics program.
My faculty stresses their goal to
become the best school for our community, employers and students. I support
that goal 100 percent, and we are well
set to achieve it. q
