The CJ3 Fusion Flight Deck Upgrade Program was announced by Duncan Aviation and Rockwell Collins at the NBAA Convention in 2016. The installation began in mid-May and the aircraft began the first flight-testing phase in early August 2016. What date was the project completed? The aircraft with a functional flight deck was on display at the NBAA Convention in November 2016. Certification was received April 21, 2017. What makes this installation unique? This was the installation of the first Pro Line Fusion flight deck upgrade in the CJ3. The Fusion upgrade provides AFTER Citation CJ3 owners with an aftermarket option for meeting mandates while simultaneously enhancing ownership and the flying experience by replacing the factory-installed portrait displays with larger 14.1-inch landscape touchscreen primary flight displays. The new system includes intuitive, touchinteractive maps, and easy-to-use icons, giving the pilot the ability to control items on the screen through touch. It also eliminates the need for flight management system control display units originally installed in the pedestal. Did you encounter any problems while working on the project? First-time certifications always have challenges. The collaboration, effort and professionalism shown between the Rockwell Collins and Duncan Aviation teams have been impressive and are the reasons the program has been successful. How did you resolve these problems? Duncan Aviation team members pride themselves on their communication and problem-solving skills. Installation team members from Duncan Aviation met daily in the hangar at the nose of the aircraft to discuss changes and work plans for the day. Team members also met weekly to ensure milestones were met and challenges were addressed. Rockwell Collins was involved in all phases of the project and worked with the installation team at Duncan Aviation. q The first Pro Line Fusion flight deck upgrade was certified in May 2017 in this CJ3 aircraft.
