INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS & SUPPORT received Federal
Aviation Administration supplemental type certification for its nonFADEC Turboprop Autothrottle (patent pending) for retrofit in the
PC-12.
According to the company, the IS&S Autothrottle manages the
PT6 engine, provides for FADEC like engine protection and prevents engine over torque and over temperature conditions while
providing speed envelope protection to ease pilot workload and
enhance safety.
The IS&S Autothrottle allows a pilot to automatically control the
power settings of the engine. The Autothrottle computes and controls appropriate power levels and features an automatic takeoff
and go-around mode that smoothly brings the turbine engine to
max power in a few seconds.
The Autothrottle includes two other major modes; the torque
hold and airspeed hold modes, where the pilot selects the desired
torque or desired airspeed. At all times and regardless of the
mode, the system protects the aircraft from over and under speed
as well as protects the engine from over torque or over temperature.
IS&S offers the Autothrottle to a market that features at least 25
different aircraft and more than 13,000 individual tail numbers. The
Autothrottle also is offered as part of the previously certified IS&S
NextGen Flight Deck for the PC-12.

SATCOM DIRECT signed an exclusive
agreement with TAG Aviation Ltd. to
incorporate new connectivity services and
technology across its U.K. fleet.
According to the company, the deal will
build on the existing business relationship
that has seen the two Farnborough U.K.based companies collaborate to provide TAG
Aviation customers with a reliable connectivity
service for the last 11 years.
Under the terms of the new agreement,
SD will extend its latest technologies for
in-flight connectivity. These include voice and
data solutions to ensure TAG's fleet stays
connected at all the phases of flight, wherever
the aircraft are operating around the world.
Once the integration of the new services
is complete, TAG Aviation's passengers and
crew will have access to enhanced flight
deck and cabin connectivity, communications,
information and entertainment when travelling,
which will be provided through SD's portfolio
of software, hardware and support services.

TrueNorth, an SD Company
TRUENORTH, AN SD COMPANY introduced a new FANS1/A over Iridium data link unit with voice at EBACE 2017.
DLU-vox will provide data link capabilities (ACARS,
ADS-C and CPDLC) plus flight deck safety voice capabilities in a small, lightweight, stand-alone form factor,
according to the company. The new DLU-vox has the
same dimensions and footprint as TrueNorth's existing
FAA TSO-C139a DLU, and will give operators options for

a data only (DLU) or a data and voice solution (DLU-vox).
"Our new DLU-vox will allow operators to better manage
their workload," said MARK VAN BERKEL, general
manager, TrueNorth. "Text-based contact with air traffic
control reduces communication errors, and a channel of
enhanced quality voice provides added flexibility. Both will
help foster smooth flight operations."
